Col. William B. Bates, Part 1 of 3. Interviewed by Don Macon. Col. Bates, a prominent attorney, educator and philanthropist, tells of his childhood on a farm in Nacogdoches where he was one of 13 children. He worked his way through school and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin in 1915, after which he established his first law practice in Bay City; this was interrupted by World War I where Col.
