San Jacinto Lung Association records

The San Jacinto Lung Association records include correspondence, legal documents, budgets, tuberculosis statistics, committee reports and minutes, printed materials, scrapbooks, articles, christmas seals, and photographs that document the history, community services, staff and administration of the San Jacinto Lung Association. Most notably, the collection highlights the organization’s public health programs to prevent and control tuberculosis as well as its Christmas Seal fundraising campaigns.

The materials are arranged in three series: Organization Records (1911-1993), Photographs (1895-1969), and Scrapbooks (1924-1974). The collection equals 13 cubic feet (12 document and oversize boxes).The materials are in fair condition. Some items were damaged or lost during the flood caused by Tropical Storm Allison in 2001.

Francis Catlin, MD papers

The Francis Catlin, MD papers contains photographs, pamphlets, magazines, university and government publications, notes from his medical research and experiments, and letters to colleagues documenting the research and the professional life of Francis Catlin, MD.

Francis Catlin was born on December 6, 1925 in Hartford, Connecticut. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1948 from Johns Hopkins University, where he also served two residencies in otolaryngology and. Dr. Catlin served in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps from 1950-1952 at the rank of Captain and was the Assistant Chief of E.N.T. Service, U.S. Air Force, 1100th Medical Group, Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. Dr. Catlin taught and conducted research as a faculty member at Johns Hopkins from 1955-1972. There, he was a part of the Department of Otolaryngology in the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health and Hygiene’s Environmental Medicine Department, and the Public Administration. In 1972 Dr. Catlin and his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he accepted the appointments: as Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology; as Chief-of-Service in the department of Otolaryngology at St. Luke’s Episcopal the and Texas Children’s Hospitals; and as the Director of the Speech, Language, and Learning Disorders at the Texas Children’s Hospital. South Main Center Association records consists primarily of South Main Center Association newsletters (issues from 1978 to 1993). The newsletter focuses on urban and economic development, as well as general community events and news regarding local schools and government in the South Main Street Area. Also included are issues of the SMCA “Summit Bulletin” from Feb. to June/July 1990.

The first and last folders contain miscellaneous items. There are various letters of invitation, ranging in date from 1982 to 1992, to attend organizational meetings. These letters are addressed to Elizabeth White at the HAM-TMC library and mention noted guest speakers. Also contained are financial statements and annual reports from ’77, ‘79-’80, ’80-’81, ’81-’82 and ‘86. The first and last folders contain folders which provide information regarding the purpose of the SMCA and letters of invitation to a reception honoring the establishment of the organization.

Jane E. Johnson's Texas Children's Hospital nursing papers

The Jane E. Johnson's Texas Children's Hospital nursing papers, 1953-1954, includes two photographs showing the new Texas Children's Hospital in 1954, a letter from 1953 confirming that Jane Johnson has been hired as a "charter member" of the nursing staff, a paper stub from 1954, and an undated news clipping mentioning the firing of staff at the hospital. The materials were donated by Jane Johnson and delivered to the archive by Brenda Thompson, a friend and, as of 2013, a member of the nursing staff at Texas Children's Hospital. The materials are in good condition, although the news clipping is showing yellowing form the acid in the paper. This collection consists of one folder.

The Lucile Baird papers contains 13 photographs and 4 letters related to the Baptist Memorial Hospital (later Memorial Hospital). The photographs depict hospital staff, interns, nurses, and students. Robert Jolly and Lillian Wilson Burnett Jolly appear in a few photographs, and they are the correspondents with Lucile Baird. Letters include Christmas greeting cards and Baptist Hospital stationary. Photographs and letters appear to have annotations by the creator as well as her niece, Carol Wilde.
