Harris County Academy of General Practice records

The Harris County Association of General Practice is a component branch of the American Academy of General Practice and the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of General Practice. Through the diligent efforts of Dr. Lyman C. Blair and others a charter was issued on July 23rd, 1948, thereby establishing the Harris County Chapter.

The collection documents the history of a local medical association and to some extent the attitudes with the field of general practice.

The Sidney Schnur, MD papers document his work as a cardiologist and clinical professor at Baylor College of Medicine. The papers include materials related to St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and a variety of professional organizations. Foremost among these are a number of records relating to the Harris County Medical Society around the time of his presidency in 1972. While the collection contains some materials dating as far back as 1939, the bulk of the materials date from 1965-1976.
