Series I: Photographic Prints,

This series consists of biographical files, subject files, article files, and oversize that document developments, events, issues, news, and personalities in medicine from 1955-1988. Many of the images were used in issues of the Medical World News. There are reproduced photographs in the biographical files and subjects files that pre-date the publication with content as early as 1904. These images were mostly provided by other agencies to illustrate an article or medical news item. Images dated before 1960 are assumed to be reproductions. Biographical files are organized in alphabetical order by name. Subject files are organized in alphabetical order by subject term. Article files are organized in numerical order by the article number assigned by the publisher, which is generally chronological order. Oversize materials are organized by article number with unnumbered items at the end. The inventory provides subject or article title, photographer (if available), year or issue date. The series totals 255 boxes and 8 oversized boxes and equals 133.5 cubic feet.

Series II: Photographic Negatives,

This series consists of the raw photographic footage and copy negatives produced by staff and freelance photographers for Medical World News articles. Materials include black & white 35mm negatives, 4x5 format negatives, and 120/220 format negatives. There are 8,309 folders of negatives organized by negative identification number assigned by the publisher, which is generally in chronological order. The inventory reflects the information provided on the original envelope, containing negative identification number, subject, photographer, editor or writer, film formats and quantity of each format (in box brackets), and date of footage. This series totals 155 boxes and equals 77.5 cubic feet.

Series III: Slides and Transparencies,

This series consists of color 35mm slides as well as medium and large format transparencies that were created for feature and cover stories of the Medical World News. There are 165 folders of transparencies organized alphabetically by subject. The inventory reflects the information provided on the original box of materials, including subject, credited photographer (and agency if applicable), formats - quantity (in box brackets), possible issue date (if available), and year. The series totals 10 boxes and equals 5 cubic feet.

Series IV: Cover Stories,

This series contains article drafts, source materials, interview transcripts, interoffice memos, visuals, and other materials related to specific cover stories in Medical World News. The inventory provides article title (in quotations), author, part number of total folders (in parenthesis), types of materials in folder, and issue date. This series has materials related to 12 cover stories between 1978-1979 and totals 4 boxes, equaling 2 cubic feet.

Series II: Clinicopathologic Conference (CPC);

Scope and Content Note: This series is about Clinicopathologic Conference (CPC). CPC is the well established abbreviation for Clinicopathological Conference. However, it also can stand for the process of clinicopathological correlation. The CPC conference is a time-honored interdepartmental and interdisciplinary approach in which a patient’s clinical findings and course are presented, followed by a discussion usually focused on the differential diagnosis by a knowledgeable clinician, followed by the presentation of the pathological findings by a pathologist, culminating in a general discussion. The goal is to provide increased understanding of diseases by correlation of clinical and pathological findings. There are no transcripts of these recordings. Each box is arranged by the video dates. The time frame for each box is the only description given.

This series contains the Doctor's Club newsletter titled Memos that document events and people of the Doctor's Club.

Series IV: Sculptures by Robert Portus,

This series contains the sculptures by Robert Portus. Originally from Los Angeles (Born: 1925), Robert Portus was a metal fabricator and artist producing metal sculptures in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s and 1970s. He later moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where he died in 2009. (ObitTree. Scope and Content Note: This series contains artwork and illustrations from Cancer Bulletin. The series is organized into subseries based on the purpose of the artwork: Cover Art containing artwork that was used on the front covers and back covers of each issue; Illustrations containing all artwork found within each issue that is not a portrait; and Medical Portraits containing all portraits within each issue.

Series III: The Heart Bulletin;

Scope and Content Note: This series contains artwork and illustrations from Heart Bulletin. This series is organized into subseries based on the purpose of the artwork: Cover Art containing artwork that was used on the front covers and back covers of each issue; Illustrations containing all artwork found within each issue that is not a portrait; and Medical Portraits containing all portraits within each issue.

Series IV: Medical Record and Annals;

Scope and Content Note: This series contains the original artwork used for Medical Records and Annals front covers, and some photographs used to illustrate articles within the journal issues. Medical Record and Annals was published by The Medical Arts Publishing Foundation from 1964 to 1968, although it had been in existence since 1907. Cover artwork from the journal, called the Texana Collection, had been diplayed in several exhibits around Houston, Texas, including Town Hall of Foley's Department Store downtown in 1970 during the 10th International Cancer Congress, and at the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library in 1977. The The cover artworks are generally paintings and depict historic medical figures or events based in the state of Texas. Artwork that was painted on canvas has been placed in separate boxes.

Series V: Psychiatric Bulletin;

Scope and Content Note: This series contains the original artwork used for The Psychiatric Bulletin including back and front cover art, illustrations, and medical portraits. The back cover artwork for The Psychiatric Bulletin usually featured illustrations of a monkey, an ostrich, and a turtle accompanied by a quote. The back cover artwork is described by the source of the quote in the illustration, if known. If the source of the quote is unknown – a description of what is depicted in the artwork is used. The artworks are organized with illustrations grouped together, medical portraits grouped together, and front and back cover artwork grouped together then arranged chronologically within those groupings.

Series I: Menninger Publications

Scope and Content for Series I: Menninger Publications: This series includes staff publications and articles from professional and general publications, including typed articles submitted for publication, copies of published articles alone and within publications, copies of news articles and publications, copies of printouts of Menninger Clinic website content. The series has been minimally processed and is described only at box level. The materials are in excellent condition. 37 cubic feet (73 boxes).

Series IV: Addendum,

Scope and Content for Series IV: Addendum contains materials added to the collection after the initial processing. Materials include obituraries, photographs, alumni directories, and printed materials related to Karl Menninger and the educational programs of the Menninger FOundation. The series equals one cubic foot (2 boxes).

Series II: Newsletters,

This series contains HIV Treatment Alerts and RITA! (Research Initiative, Treatment Action) newsletters published by The Center for AIDS: Remembrance and Hope Project.

Series III: Historical materials,

This series contains materials related to the history and origins of the Texas Medical Center. Materials include charter, board of directors’ records, administrative records, TMC Hamilton hospital study, correspondence, construction records, brochures, printed materials, maps, annual reports, news items, and event materials.

Series V: Photographs,

This series contains photographic materials that document the development of the Texas Medical Center and the growth of its member institutions. A significant portion of the series covers the 2006 photo contest and images of outdoor art installations.

Series I: Organization Records,

This series is comprised of correspondence, legal documents, budgets, tuberculosis statistics, committee reports and minutes, printed materials, newsletters, medical articles, and Christmas Seals that document the history, community services, and administrative functions of the San Jacinto Lung Association. Also included are items such as a pamphlet for a pinning ceremony at Prarie View A&M School of Nursing and the Texas A&M telephone directory.

Subseries D: Publications

This subseries contains university publications. It includes handbooks for topics in teaching, handbooks for predental advising, student guides for the school and programs of study offered by the school, library resource guides and Brochures. It also includes The Special Patient, Post graduate manuals and video tape catalogs. The materials are in excellent condition. 2.5 Cubic feet (5 boxes).

Subseries E: Events

Scope and Content Note: This subseries contains information and ephemera for various events hosted by or for the UT Dental Branch. The materials are in excellent condition. .5 Cubic feet (1 box).

Scope and Content Note: This series contains the original artwork used for Cancer Bulletin front and back covers. The artworks are either hand-drawn illustrations or paintings - unless otherwise noted. The artwork has been arranged by format and then chronologically by publication date. Artwork that was painted on canvas has been placed in separate boxes from those that were painted on paper and paper on board. Oversized items are in oversized boxes, and artwork that has remained in frames has been separated and is in the garment artifact framed (GAF) section.

Subseries II: Illustrations; 1949 - 1969

Scope and Content Note: This series contains original artwork used inside The Cancer Bulletin journal issues to illustrate stories and articles. The title of the article is used as the title of the illustration if it is located on the title page of the article, if not then a literal description of the illustration is used as its title. The name of the artist for each illustration is included in the descriptions if known.

Scope and Content Note: This series contains the artwork used for The Heart Bulletin front and back covers. The artworks are original hand-drawn illustrations and paintings, unless otherwise noted. Front cover artwork that was painted on canvas has been placed in separate boxes. The back cover artwork for The Heart Bulletin featured cartoon drawings of a red atery and a blue vein accompanied by a quote about cardiovascular theory from notable physicians or philosphers. The back cover artwork is described by the name of the person that is quoted if it is a printed version of the artwork, if it is the original artwork – a description of what is depicted in the artwork is used.

Subseries II: Illustrations

Scope and Content Note: This series contains original artwork used inside The Heart Bulletin journal issues to illustrate stories and articles. The title of the article is used as the title of the illustration if it is located on the title page of the article, if not then a literal description of the illustration is used as its title. Subseries A: Menninger Staff Publications.

This subseries includes articles and copies of medical journals in which the Menningers and staff members published papers. Journals include International Journal of Psycho-Analysis, Psychiatric Studies and Projects, and The Psychiatric Forum. This subseries is organized alphabetically by journal title.
