Harris Busch papers

The Harris Busch papers is a conglomeration of reprinted research conducted by Dr. Harris Busch and his colleagues. The reprints are bound into volumes according to year. Dr. Busch's research was conducted at a variety of institutions including the Department of Medicine, Biochemistry, and Pathology at Yale University; University of Wisconsin Madison; and the Department of Pharmacology at University of Illinois. However, most of his research in the collection was conducted at the Department of Pharmacology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was Professor in the Department of Pharmacology. He would conduct research regarding cellular metabolism, cancer, toxicology, and pharmacology within the Department of Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine from approximately 1962-1997. This collection includes: publications, reports, research, reprints, and patents.

James E. Barkley Pharmaceutical Collection

Scope & Content: James E. Barkley is a retired pharmacist and pharmaceutical salesman who worked for the Wellcome company. In the course of his career, Mr. Barkley collected numerous antique bottles of medicine. The collection contains bottles with medicine dating from the late 1800s.

Most of the bottles contain pills, but some bottles contain liquids. Bottles of liquid are stored in archival-quality plastic bags.

Ferid Murad, MD, PhD papers

The Ferid Murad, MD papers consists of fifiteen handwritten notebooks documenting Dr. Ferid Murad's research. The notebooks include research data presented in tables and charts, as well as Dr. Murad's notes. The notebooks span the years 1959-1970. The first set of notebooks (#1-12) corresponds to his doctoral and medical studies at Western Reserve University, which concluded in 1965. The second set (1-11) pick up in 1967.

In addition, the collection includes a small number of printed materials from organizations of which Dr. Murad was a part. Notably, there are manuals from his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, dating around 1965. The Information for House Staff manual includes handwritten notes. The only two items dating from after 1970 are are a guide from the Stanford Institute of Biological and Clinical Investigation and a National Academy of Sciences membership directory.
